Bangkok - Floating Markets

Up early this morning we piled into our mini bus for our day trip. Our first stop was the floating markets where we saw all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff, took lots of pictures and suffered through the stifiling heat! After the floating markets we went to a snake show which was thje single most scary experience - not fun and totally freaky. (Snakes are not my strong suit!) We then travelled further and had some lunch and then onto the bridge over river Kwai to see the museum and walk along the bridge. After the bridge we went to the tiger temple to see the tigers where we got to have our photos taken with Tiger cubs and then heaps of big tigers. It was so much fun but a little scary as you were escorted past all the tigers by two thai people saying 'ssshhhh' and careful. We survived and everyone had a great day. We arrived back late - after a long bus ride where we even reversed up the highway - dont ask but thai drivers are beyond scary!

Bangkok

Today we had an awsome breakfast at the hotel and then headed off to do some serious shopping at MBK - the holy grail of shopping. Several hours and several thousands of dollars - thai dollars - later we returned weary and broke to our hotel to look of our purchases. We caught the monorail to the shopping centre and back again which was actually really good and we had an awsome lunch at MBK which made everyone very happy. The afternoon was spent once again rest and relaxation by the pool with drinks and dinner.

Bangkok

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

We all got up this morning and had breakfast (it wasnt good and the spirits were not too high). We checked out and headed off to Kao San Road to try to find some better accommodation. We caught two taxis and then had to meet up. We were way off base with the taxi's so we had to walk a bit, harrassed by taxi's and tuk tuk's, we finally relented and went to a tourist office who helped us get some accommodation in china town, or on the outskirts of china town. Apparently there was alot of passport stealing and room breaking in on Kao San Road so we decided to avoid that - especially on chirstmas! So we then headed off to our new hotel.

The new hotel has an outside pool so John Boy is awfully happy. So much so that he gave up lunch to stay by the pool while Zoie, Jesse, Rob and I went and had lunch. We returned for some relaxing by the pool, afternoon naps and then drinkies by the pool followed by dinner. Tough life really!

The Last Full day in Chiang Mai

  • The boys wanted to sleep in so it was a slow start to the day
  • John, Rob & I walked around Chiang Mai and got some food (everyone is eating western at the moment in fear of the bellies)
  • Saw some markets and some food markets.
  • Got our feed sucked by fish - so weird i almost threw up!
  • Had massages (oh what a life!)
  • Zoie, Rob & I (plus 2 south africans from our trek) went to the Zoo - such a waste of money
  • Returned back to the hotel and went for dinner and then shopping at the night bazar - spent heaps of money and got some really cool stuff!
